Lynne Smith I thought the article, the actual article is four pages and linked to this additional rebuttal, was very good. I'm not surprised that pit bull people took offense to it, nor m I surprised at the reasons why they took offense, basically misinformation and flat out ignorance. I think its good to see these things, the contrast between the pit bull lovers and what they have been taught, and the rest of the world and actual research.

Thank you everyone, angry, agreeing, or otherwise, for this incredible response to the April 23 cover story, “You Love Me Now, but Will You When I’m Four?” I have learned a lot. And I recognize that, for most of you, these objections to my story...

  • Paris Wolf When I used to work at the humane society shelter, we received an English Bulldog that tore off a child's face in his own home. Over a decade ago this happened. English Bulldogs can and have done serious damage to kids and other pets. I do not trust them to this day.

  • Paris Wolf Overall I thought it was a good article. Except for that one point Lesley Karen Luscombe brought up, which may lead some pet seekers to be duped about the safety of the pitbulls being bred and are for sale these days.
  • Nicholas Valentine I thought this a well balanced, well written article except that the factor that genetics play wasn't given enough prominence . The history of the Bull Dog was a bit shaky , my view is the Pit Bull is the original Bull Dog virtually unchanged whilst The Bull Dog is a hideous mutation from the original kept as a curiosity , but then this is splitting hairs .

  • Cam Bellamy "so what that forty two Americans were killed by pitbulls last year. do you have any idea of the amount of dogs and cats we kill every year in the US? "...pulled from the comments. Doesn't get much more cray cray than that
  • Lynne Smith Considering half of the dogs killed were pit bulls because they are overpopulated and not being regulated...
  • Eve Sylvie You are correct Nick. See here famous paintings of old compared to modern dogs.
  • Eve Sylvie Fighting Dogs getting Wind by Edwin Landseer in 1818.
  • Nicholas Valentine I hadn't seen this Landseer painting before Eve Sylvie , he is one of my favourite artists . I am amazed at the likeness of the top dog to a modern pit dog , even the chocolate colouring which I thought was a modern colour . There is an opinion that when animals are bred for purpose their form doesn't alter very much over time , here's a clear example of this - I find it very interesting .
  • Julia Dolan Green Was the dog on the bottom killed?
  • Julia Dolan Green I have a Landseer over my family room fireplace, but it's of a wolfhound and a Cavalier King Charles spaniel:
  • Eve Sylvie Here's another look at the pure bred pit bull of the past and the present.
  • Jean Olszewski Wow, that Colby blood has been around a long time . I remember hearing a rap song recently about Colby blood in their game dogs .
  • Nicholas Valentine Julia Dolan Green If you have a genuine Landseer hanging in your home you are one of the luckiest people I know !!
